Sightless Sounds

Youngbloods WA—a networking organisation for young creatives—ran a contest to ‘Make a Band Famous’ where they chose three local  bands nobody had ever heard of, and gave as many creative teams $500 to increase their Facebook ‘likes’ as much as possible in one month.

With World Glaucoma Week coming up, my team's idea was to hold a gig in complete darkness to raise awareness for the world’s leading cause of blindness. We wanted the audience to feel what it’s like to live without sight, even just for one night.

We hoped that the event would not only do some good for a worthy cause, but give our band some free publicity. It did both. We raised $2000 for Glaucoma Australia, and The Disappointed were interviewed on a bunch of local radio stations. After the event, their website had over 1000 extra hits and we quadrupled their Facebook 'likes'. To top it all off, we took home the award for Most Creative Campaign.
